2.5" or 3.75" backspacing??
« on: Dec 17, 2004, 03:37:21 PM »
I am trying to decide which backspacing to get on my new wheels, they are 15x10 black rockcrawlers going on an 82 toyota 4WD.  Should I get the standard 3.75" or a custom 2.5' bs which would push the wheels out further?  Does anyone have the 2.5" bs?  How does it work out on the trail?  Any advantages?  Thanks

Makes it wider, more flex, more stable, not so narrow. I have 2.5" BS. Look at my avatar. If you dont have enouph lift you could get some bad tire rubbing.

With 15x10 wheels with 3.5" BS and 35" MTR's my tires rub the frame. Added 1.5" spacers to each side, and now my tires rub the inside of my fenders when they stuff. I'm now going to a 1" wheel spacer, or it would be the same as a 2.5" BS wheel. Crossing my fingers it works.

So ya, I vote for the 2.5" BS wheels.

You gotta order them with a flipped shell. I've got 3.75 bs 15x8 steelies and Marlins 1" spacers 35" mtrs, clears the springs but catches bottom of the fender at the cab-full stuffage, got to clearance the cab still.

What size tire are you going to run? I'm currently running 33s on 15x10s with 3.25 backspacing with no rubbing problems (front axle moved forward 1.5")

I'm going to run 38x12.5x15 swamper tsl's.  I am going to run the wider 86up rear axle, so I'm afraid it will stick out too far if I have to run 1.5" spacers on each side in the front to match it up.  I have my fenders cut out, about 6-7" lift, and the front axle is about 2" forward.  Thanks for all the help!

U.S. wheels from Summit, you can have them get you the 2.5", but if I remember right they come unpainted (powdercoated) if they are the custom offset

Scott at Rockstomper used to make em in about anything.

4WParts will order em for yah.

I have either 2.5" or 2.75", it has been long enough I dont remember now or care anymore to be quite honest.

I will download another pic at home later and post it, this is the only one I have and it is with 2" Marlin wheel spacers.

so my backspacing is either 0.75" or 0.50"  It is MUCH more stable but it is a major pain to steer in tight stuff.

85 Runner, 5" All-Pro Extreme Lift, Complete Marlin T-Case with new TS 4.7 gears, Super Birfields(Longfields), 5:29's, Detroited front, Spooled rear, 36" TSL's, Bikini top.

Yes, Livin in Kansas sucks azz!!
