If your REALLY gonna be the spotter, then the most important thing is to make sure that the trucks underside dosen't hit anywhere, in other words, make blackdog climbs the hi stuff, so his suspension and drivetrain doesn't get caught up on rocks or branches! If your "feeling out" a mud hole, ALWAYS add at least 8" to whatever depth you feel with a stick! Believe me 8" MINIMUM!

    That help at all? :driving:

SWAMPER

Yeah on rocks visualize where the truck will go...and what will be under what...that way you dont stab the gas tank or something...and on mud ( i love mud  ) do feel it out throw rocks and probe it with sticks...what I have used b4 is a stick with a rope tied to it and a rock at the other end (kinda like a fishing pole with line and weight) Hope that helps girl :cheer:

One of the things that I had to keep reminding my self when I first started spotting my dad.  Keep an eye on the rear diff, just cuase you got the front up and over doesnt mean you arent going to come to a sudden stop when the rear axle catches up.

Jared

blackdog, you should keep tell her to keep the accord and just buy like a early 80s yota... ive been seeing them go for less than 1000 here in the sacramento area....when you gonna start the SAS>?   I could make the hangers for you and some other stuff so save your money and just bring a box of pizza and some beer and lets go wrenching so you could go crawling....  :hahaha:   Keep the accord for the daily driver....
ah the beauty of a cuttin torch

BDspotter,   the best advice i could give you is just make hime let you drive so you can get a feel for the truck  the only way to get experience is to go out and experiment,  just have fun   thats what its all about anyway

Make sure he doesn't hit both of his differentials.  Make sure he doesn't roll.  Make sure he doesn't hit any trees.  some basics.

BLACKDOG

She's kept me from hitting the trees and rolling so far.  :crossed:
It'll happen one of these days, I know it.

Once you get a feeling for how wide the axles are, you'll be able to visualize where the tires will go on the obstacle.  The idea is to keep the vehicle as level as possible and on the higher spots to keep diffs, tcases, etc. from getting hung up on the rocks.  HTH,
