Wheels...
« on: Dec 15, 2004, 07:43:01 PM »
Hey guys-

My crappy steel 17's are the wrong offset for my truck.  Before the first organized event of next year (chili challenge in February...) I want to put some new rims on my rig.  Gotta be 17's to work with my tires, but with 3.5" or LESS backspacing.  I'm considering beadlocks as well as standard wheels.  I only need 4 to start (I'll buy the 5th later unless the price is right) and I've got around $1000 total to spend.  Any suggestions?

Weld on beadlocks will effectively change the offset of your wheels to a more opositive offset.  And its about $300 for them too.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

I thought about the weld on kits, but with 4.5" BS, my wheels just look stoopid.  I'm checking into the allied wheels right now, but anyone have any other suggestions??

Yes, I run them on my 4Runner. I will be putting a set on another truck I am building. The web site does not show all of his wheels. If you have any questions call Rick. Ive known the Rick forever, he is a good dude.

Re: Wheels...Now: Which Backspacing??
« Reply #12 on: Jan 02, 2005, 11:36:52 PM »
I think I've settled on the MRT beadlocks (pending approval from my better half.  She says I have to submit a written request for a purchase order  :eyebrow: )

Next question is what backspacing?  I've got a trailer and a tow vehicle, but will still need to drive it on the street occasionally.  I'm not too worried about Johnny Law around here, but more worried about my wheel bearings and all.  I've got and IFS rear axle and 1.5" spacers on the front.  I need to gain some width over my crappy 4.5" BS wheels I have now for stability reasons with the 37's.  Is 2" BS too little for my rig?  Will it burn up bearings on longer road ventures?  Some of the "Local" wheeling requires 100-150 miles of pavement (roundtrip), so it'll see significant road time.  Frequent repacking of bearings isn't a problem, but I don't want to replace bearings and spindles twice a year or anything.

If you've got 2", 2.25" or 2.5" BS wheels on your rig, post up some pics for me so I can get a feel for how they'll work on my pile.

Thanks guys!

Those are what I've decided on, I just need to figure out the backspacing...

I still think I'll probably just go with their standard steel beadlock ring, and paint 'em pink or something... :stopit:

Ok, not really.  They'll just be black.  Unless I can find some fuschia... :gap:

Me too...I'm just unsure how they'll look on my rig.  I'll have to do some photoshop work to see...

Any other suggestions on Backspacing guys?

I think 3 1/4-ish would be decent, not too wide for the bearings to go, but wide enough to not have the 4.5" BS that you already have :gay:

also, you could paint the wheels black & the beadlock ring purple with pink circles, like polka-dots  :stopit:

Im happy with 3.5 and the ifs hub swap.  37" ssr's clear the springs completely.  So Id think you could get away with either 2.5" or 3" and be fine.
