Browning .50 cal machine gun is hard to beat.  Its been in active military service longer than almost any other weapon. 


Not sure if its my favorite but certainly one of the most influential is the German Sturmgewehr.  Its the grandaddy of all assault weapons.  Invented in WWII.   notice how much is resembles the Russian AK-47.

oh this is tough. for assault rifle the m4, like the versatility just wish it was an open bolt action and 7.62.

machine gun, between the ma duece and the 240. 240 can be very accurate for a machine gun and is man portable, but not much can stand up to the raw power of the ma duece.

note 308 and 30-06 are the same 7.62 ball just the 30-06 is a bigger case (more powder )

yep. M14 is another assault rifle that i like, one of the best options for afghanistan, just not as well suited for cqb as the m4 is.

you know the us army at one time used only three bullet sizes for almost 50 years, the 30-06, 50cal, and 45acp.
