Im wanting to do rears up front on my DD, bad idea?     85runner

I have my stock rear springs, plus the 4in rears im running are about to be pulled off. I think they are 4in, they were laying in my buddys back yard for a while, decided to bolt em up, taking out my blocks. I dont know what they are, so i dont know what the weight rating is. So im getting new springs for the rear, anyways.....

Im a noob, I dont know what pack would be best for a dd. Should i just build a pack from what i have?

I run RUFs on my DD no problems at all.  I added a couple leaves from another pack though.  I have a 5 leaf pack

Im running a stock RUF pack on my DD and its works fine, although its a little soft so Id definelty add a leaf or two.

do you have the stock pushpull steering??  because if you do you CAN NOT use ruf.   Rears u f require high steer

actually I ran Rufs and push pull for a while. never had any problems. I had a j arm with a flipped ball. and I shortened my steering arm.   of course it had nasty tourqe steer when braking.

I already have hoops and shocks, but i dont have an ifs box or histeer yet, Im moving as fast as my finances will let me. But i will def be running histeer with the ruf.

What about the front hangers? I've read a few people have had problems with approach angle. Is it really necessary to hang em that low? Again, Im a noob.

theres alot of info on RUF's all over the net, i suggest doing a little research man! and although your hanger may catch, having your axle moved forward should help your approach angle, so its a balance between the two i'm guessing!

until you get highsteer pull your stock front packs apart and throw everything but the top 2 leaves away, then tank a set of rears, pull them apart, toss the flat load leaf, cut the ends off the top two and install them under your top two front,  you'll get 3 inches lift or more and be able to use stock steering

so i can build a pack out of my front and rears? wouldnt that leave my wheel base the same length?, im not doubting your sugg, just asking

The RUF faq on pirate answers just about every question you could ever have for the swap.  most people, especially on pirate, do not answer noob question when there is a faq with a wealth of info.  i would look at that and at the chevy rears swap faq b4 posting again on pirate.
Im like Hugh Hefner minus everything good about his life.

Ive been looking at the pirate faq for a while, I stopped asking questions over there a while ago. There are too many noobs answering questions, and they usually have no idea what they are talking about. But there is some grrreat info on pirate it just takes alot of searching, but there faqs links are starting to be broken alot, lots of missing links.

yea your wheelbase would remain stock. He's just saying that to get you some lift until you can get your highsteer.

this is my approach angle with RUF and 37's with 2" drop hanger

DFWFO

Is that what you'd call a negative angle? what size shackles? thats exactly what i want to achieve, i like that approach

negative approach angle is when the tires pretrude beyond any frame and is the first thing to hit anything, like a wall or whatever you know. it's the coolest thing ever!! ha ha

Can i install hoops and shocks now, then about a month or so do RUF? or will i have to cut my welds off the hoops and move them forward with the leafs?

or just install the hoops 2in forward

if you instal tham forward now...depending on your mounts....it'll angle the shocks a bit. I'd probably just go ahead and throw the shocks on now...and then cut the hoops, smooth out the frame, and reweld them farther up.  :twocents:
