Tire Valve Stems....

Please tell me there's a way to install tire valve stems without breaking the bead.

:help:

I was weed-wacking around the trailer yesterday and found some flat tires.    Of the 4, 1 tire holds air, 1 leaks around the cracked stem, and of course the 2 stems on the tires next to the wall are broken off (where there's only enough space to reach down from the top to hook the hose up to the stems....)

I simple way to break the bead at home is to use your high lift jack. Put the foot on the bead but not the rim of course. Put the jack under something heavy, your truck or trailer works good and start jacking. It will push the bead off.

or drive on the tire next to the bead

It'd probably be easier to install one from the outside if you could get a hold of high pressure stems since the butt is smaller  ;)

I know how being sandblasted by air feels. i was breaking down a tire a few months ago and the wheel had sand caked in it.. and when the air released.. it blasted the sand out at around 40psi and into both of my eyes. I was blind for 2-3days and had hundreds of abrasions in my eyes. So make sure your wheel is clean when doing so. its highly uncomfortable.

Hahaha No :pokinit:!

I've tried to get in the habit of wearing safety glasses 100% of the time when I'm working on my truck.  You never know when something is going to pop loose, fall off, or shoot off in some unknown direction.  One of the guys I work with scratched his eye really badly when he cut a zip tie, and a chunk hit his eye.  You never know when its going to happen, be it dirt, metal shavings, grinding dust, etc.

He either used WAY too much, or the tire was pretty much shot anyway.  Thats crazy though.

Why were you attempting to break the bead with 40 psi in the tire?  This would not have happened had you done what you're supposed to do and deflate the tire before breaking the bead.

I was setting up the tire to break the bead. the valve stem was defective and busted off as i went to pull it out with my valve stemmer.

Looks like this guy.

:headscratch:  Still unsure why you're doing things backward, which I'm getting from your wording.  Even if it broke off when trying to pull it with that tool, you still should have first removed the core and deflated it before removing the stem, and if it broke off you should have been able to push it into the wheel with a screwdriver or something, thereby allowing it to deflate.

Please tell me that doesn't see the road  :ack:  That should have a high pressure stem, which really shouldn't be hard to install from the outside with a careful hand, a bit of lube and patience.

:cheese:

Just the driveway, I wanted to see if the temp fix would hold air so I could use it on the other side.

I have just enough room on the other side to get air in the tires because it's against a wall.

With the tires pumped up, I can pull the trailer out for working room.....
