Topic: 81-84 22r Interchangeable?

A quick question- I have a 1984 4runner with a 22r.  It is the early style.  Is it interchangeable with a 22r out of a 1981 pickup?

Pros/Cons/Gotchas I should be aware of?

i did an engine swap in my 82 4X4 with an 84 used motor. no issues just some parts needed to be swapped cuz the 84 came out of a 2wd so it had 2 sumps in the oil pan instead of one and the oil pickup tube and to be swapped. i think was was it for issues

not only is it interchangeable  many of the engine parts are identical.  depending on the month of 1984  its either a tall deck (early style) or a short deck (later efi style)

81 pickup and 84 runner = 22R

Minor things like different carbs, intake manifold, hose routing and little things like that may be different so keep the old motor handy, you may need to swap some things.
