I am looking to buy a 4runner as a daily driver and was wondering which ones were the best?  I was thinking like the early to mid 80's vs. the 89 to oh' lets say 95???  I am kind of on a budget and are looking to purchase one very soon.  Your input would be greatly app.  I have an 88 truck and love it.  Just didnt know if I wanted to get into the newer body style.  Didnt know if it would be harder to work on or if they were very good.  I think the rear suspension is coil sprung on the early 90's  Thanks
Bone stock 94 Runner.  3VZE, 4x4, 5 speed.  204K miles and counting------96 Runner Limited 4x4, 3.4L Automatic, 144K miles and going strong!

84/85 solid front axle

86-89 same body as 84/85, V6 starts in 88

90 up gets 4 doors and coils in the rear, good looks.

After that it's how much money you have and what looks good to you.

There's a nice '92 in the rigs for sale section, lots of neat stuff ~$4K  http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=6197.0

Well, if you need 4 doors, go for a '90+, if not, save a few bucks and get something as close to an '88 as poss. Then most of your parts are interchangable.
