coolant system problems
« on: Feb 28, 2010, 07:27:04 PM »
i have an 85 4runner with a 22re, i got a brand new engine not rebuild. for the first 7,000 miles it would always stay at a constant temp once the engine heated up, then the hose to the heater core blew and i had to replace it. i burped the radiator and it was working the same for a while then recently it started getting really hot (the temp needle would be a little under the red) and then it would go down and run at normal temp. it does this constantly while i drive. im worried im putting extra stress on the engine, does anyone have an idea whats up?

could be your thermostat is rated to open higher then it should be? maybe get a lower rated one, something to check into i suppose. not sure why it'd take 7000 miles but?
