Why go 1 wire ? I understand the power, but they are self sensing, so kinda a joke. Why not just a GM CS and wire it right, and get the most from an alternator. If you look at the guts a 1 wire isn't really a 1 wire except, ease of hookup for the user.
I agree, I run a second alternator from a 81 Celica and wired it so that it only comes on when I flip the switch I hooked up do do just that.
I would go CS, and bother to hook it up right, than go 1 wire. Off the shelf 100 + amps depending on model. Cheap and every auto parts store in the country has one on the shelf.
