Topic: Mixing 3.90 third with a 3.91?

Are "3.90" thirds from an 81 4X4 really different from "3.91" thirds out of an early 90's 4X2 4Runner?  Or can I use one in the front and one in the back?

Those ratios are so close you won't have a problem.

thats going to be noticeable as compard to 3.90 and 3.91. i wouldnt engage 4wd on the street ever but in dirt and 23 spline tcase gears it could work. be careful in the rocks though. i wouldnt advise it though.

yeah i second that. those ratios are close, but not close enough. you'll bind up the drivetrain and destruction will find its was to the weekest link.
