what transmission should i use?
« on: Jan 27, 2010, 02:43:37 PM »
i have a question for you guys i am putting duals in my truck and i have a couple ideas for what transmission to run? OK i have a 86 forward shift transmission in it now, but i have a good w56 and a r151f that i wanted to put in but some one tolled me to day that the r150 is a better transmission for gear jumps and bigger bearings? what do you guys think i should do?
thanks for any info

I love my r151f. Plus it has a lot lower 1st than a 150 (4.313 compared to 3.83). Plus 23 spline to boot. The w56 is ok if you wanted to use the turbo trans for some sweet trading material, but the 151 is definitely the superior unit.

you do NOT want to run a R150 unless you want to have a weaker chain drive tcase.

is this a trail rig??  if so run the w56 and sell the R151 to Marlin I'm sure they would jump to buy it.

sounds like the r151 is the one to go. i already have the tcase that came with it and the 23 spline dual adapter and a 23 spline input gear. do you guys think i should use two top shifts or leave the front case a forward shift?

and thanks for your input

the R151 is by far the best transmission Toyota ever made and the strongest (that will bolt to a 22R anyway)
Isnt the R151 tcase a top shift??
