Ok I know I am going to get a ton of opinions but here we go.  I want to run 33's on my 85 Toy How much lift should I go I want it to look good too you know the right amount of lift for the right size tires. I was thinking 5 " is that too much .  Also BFG MTKO or Swampers Hit me with all the opinions............. :thud:

depends on a lot of thing but here goes...
i'd say 3 in. alcan all the way around.  front axle moved ahead 1.5 in. 2 in. longer shackles all around.   :thumb: that should prove to be a good combo when it all comes together.  id also run 33 in. ssr's :yum:
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

I had a 4" and 33's on my 84 and it looked good.  What are you going to be using the truck for?

You can just put a 2" body lift on it and call it even, thats all I have on my 85 pu with zero problems....

Ya what are you going to be using it for?  If you just want to clear the tires go with 2 1/2 shackels?

what they said, I could rub with my 4" Trail Master lift and 2" body lift back when I had 33" TSL's

then again, depends on your use, fender trimmage, etc. I run 38's now - about the same lift

Um I want to be able to do the poker runs, moonlight madness, Swamp Lake, at the same time I don't see myself doing Rubicon, or Moab at least for now Im still new.   I hunt alot and I see some rough terrain there, at the same time it is a daily driver.

If you have stock suspension I would not go with the shackles alone,,It looks funny.makes the spring angle funny on stock toy springs..If you going for simple and cheap downey make a great 3 in lift spring..gferris5 even has a set for 50 bucks..here is my flex with downey 3in,and 2in bdy lift, and its not at max,,I am running 32/9.50 tsl swampers..its not a great pic but you get the idea..
Forgiveness is between them and god..

hmm I think I want to go with 2 inch replacement springs and 2 inch shackles and Ill run 33's  probably the BFG MT/KO, and eventually drop to 4.88 on my gears.

those wouldnt happen to be 38x12.5's would they??  If they are lemme just say that that will probobly be the next set of tires I buy!  I bought a set two years ago and loved the hell outta the things!!  they are the best all around size they make.  not so wide that you lose much steering, got the height ya need and they dont dig too deep in the mud!!  the boggers of the neerest size dig way to deep way to fast!!
your rig is lookin good on em cheers!

Toyboy, I'm pretty sure you were interested in my FJ-40 a couple of months ago, I'm in Fresno.  I got a pickup and just finished doing Chevy's in the rear with a 4" block and a Toy rear/Wrangler reay hybrid pack in the front. I am running 35's and it looks pretty good and so far is pretty soft (just did it all last weekend, no trail time as of yet) If you are interested I could pop by and you could take a look at the suspension to see if it's something that might interest you.

I have to agree on the Downey Springs. @ $180 for a set, they are the best bolt up bang for the buck.

I had a 2 inch body and 33's I pounded in the fire wall seam and the wife trimmed the fender liners off for me by accident. I then added a SAS and a All Poo 4 inch.... 33's looked silly as hell. I'd say three inch Alcans would be fine The alcans are soft and a body lift might be a good suggestion to avoid smacking the tires into the body. I run 35 TSL SXs and can easily fit 38.s if I hit the lotto......

remember 79 - 83 have bigger wheel wells, my 33's fit fine under my truck with black diamond add a leafs,  i have rubbed the rear tires once crossing a ditch  :thud:, but that was with the bed rounded to the top of the cab with firewood and tied with straps so it wouldnt fall off, and it only rubbed the inside above the frame.

did somebody say they wanted my 50 dollar front downey springs? Get a little block in the rear and you'd have a lift for under a hundred bucks! 33's would be easy!

my buddy is running 33'' bfg at ko's and he likes them alot. he also has waggoneer springs front and rear, with alittle shackle lift, his truck flexes good for its size and has just the right amount of lift, but he needs to cut his fenders alittle! that set up works great on the street also! exept for his welded rear end(not that good for the street miles)
