headlight conversion

I have an 88 2wd base pickup and am wanting to do a headlight conversion to get a more modern and brighter light out of my headlights.  I have checked the archives on this subject and have some questions.  I have noticed that the conversions are using parts that are purchased from a parts house instead of getting the parts from another car and installing them.Why?  Is it easier or cheaper?  I was thinking about getting the relays and bulb connectors and any other part needed from a vehicle that has very bright headlights to do the conversion with.  Would that work?

Don't waste your money.  Get Sylvania Silverstar headlights.  Way cheaper.  And they are brighter than my fancy, expensive halogen sealed bulbs in my van.

I have read both articles and am going to think about it.  My thought was to do a conversion to get the same white headlight light like the larger Fords and Chevys have or the blue UV lights.  Whats your opinion about them?  Which one do you think is better?

i second the sylvania silverstar lights put them on my truck and am very happy bulbs could cost you alot of money the brighter you go we sell the HID's that come with like Audi and BMW they run 137.00 a piece i know you can get them cheaper online, and i believe the brighter you go the hotter they burn which causes them to burn out fast

On my 84 4x4 I use the Roundeyes set up and they work great. Awsome light the bulbs are a 9003/H4 IIRC. I also used the silverstar before I got the Roundeyes lights. I would recomend them to any one. When I ran the silverstars I broke one then saw the roundeyes and I have had them for about three years......

I'd like to get HID headlights, but I really hate all those new cars and trucks that have them.  They are really great for the driver to see at night, but very blinding on the oncoming traffic.  My night vision isn't that great, and now people are installing those HID lights, and automakers too, and I have horrible time driving at night now.  Those HID just blind ya.  Thats why I always recommend the Sylvania Silverstars.

HID conversions are not very efficient in keeping the light cutoff at a suitable level for everyday driving. I have the Hella h4 conversion and they have a metal housing with glass lens, the new roundeyes are polycarbonate lenses.  My lights are plenty bright with just the standard 55w low beam and project a nice pattern that won't blind others. If you need more light get some driving lights and do an HID conversion, then only use them when there is no oncoming traffic.

I have read all the articles and have decided to convert to the sylvania silverstar bulbs.  Alot of people have recommended them and told me that they put out alot of light.  I looked on ebay and they have many different models of them and I ask the people about them and the salesmen did not know what the numbers mean.  I am hoping somebody could help me.  Some of the packages are labeled Ultra H7, SU/2, 9003, 9004 and OSRAM.  What do these numbers mean?  Also, to get the maximum light output, which model should I use?  We have a truck stop close to here and they have a conversion kit there for these that will fit the 200mm square lights. How can I tell if the conversion kit is good or is it junk?

the numbers mean different models the 9003 is a clip style hold as well as the h7 the 9004,05,06,07 are all turn style the 9006 is a low and the 9005 is the high the 9004 and 9007 in a duel filament bulb i believe

how come it sais it fits 1st gen? when 1st gens are round....will these still fit right in place? anyone know?
then the round ones they sell, say they fit only the land cruiser??

Get a grill and headlight buckets from a 81-83 Toyota.

1st gen is 79-83.  79-81 had round headlights.  82-83 had rectangular headlights.  I don't know what their site says, but if you have round headlights in your 1st gen you have 7" lights.

I know lots of people really like the roundeyes, but for about $40 more you can get cibie.  I've had a set of cibie before and all I can say is

get your self hellas from offroad stores they work great and last a lot longer. my 85 efi truck was jacked and ran into a house and the lights just had paint on them and still worked and drove it home after.
