Voltage problem??

Hey guys. I have posted a couple times for simple questions but I am still learning. And I always use the search button first. So here is what I got. The voltage gauge in my truck is jumping around while the truck is running. Sometimes it stops. Is this something to worry about and if it is where should I start looking for a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah almost forgot... my rig is a 1983 short bed 4wd pickup.

what do you mean by jumping around like from full charge to over charge to where it should be or like a one to two volt drop? either way i would check your wires then your external voltage regulator hope this helps

it jumps from 12V to about 14V. ok so here is another stupid question. I checked my haynes manual and there is no reference to a voltage regulator. Where can I find it??

yea probably the regulator it can be found on the driver fender about middle and has two mounting bolts and either a five or six wires if you wanna hold on i can get a pix for you

sorry for the picture but all i had was my phone and its dark the wires at the bottom are either ganna be a six or five you will need to know this if you buy one

cool thank you. I am already looking online on where to buy them. I already checked the wires. They LOOK ok. i will post in a few days on what happened.

sounds good hope it helps when mine went bad it would read no charge then when i would get my truck to the parts store to test my charging system it would be fine so i just finally replaced it and no problem since
