88 4runner auto trans question
« on: Jan 24, 2010, 06:52:52 PM »
I installed a rebuilt auto trans on my 88 runner. I have the 3.0 v6, and now my question. I've installed my kickdown cable but I want to know if it is adjusted correctly. It seems to shift thru all the gears. Does that mean it's done or is there something I'm missing.

Does anyone know does the computer have to reset because the trans seems to shift fine sometimes and others it shifts soft and not into overdrive.

The kickdown cable is just that -- it opens up the pressure for the lines when you floor the accelerator, making the transmission downshift for passing maneuvers.

To adjust it, just take all the slack out of it at the throttle body side.  I've read that some people just adjust the cable to WOT permanently and it still shifts no problem.

As far as resetting the computer, there is a fuse that you can pull, but I don't remember which one.  The tranny won't go into OD unless the engine temperature is at normal operating temp.
