yes the gussets go on top of the legs where they mount to the frame.  Tip for doin your sliders....  tack everything together and in place on the truck.  then mark the legs where they need to go on the frame. then cut the tacks off the frame so you can weld the legs to the sliders when they are off the truck.  Its alot easier to weld all the way around the legs when the sliders are off the truck!

If you want them tight, you will also have to trim that bottom lip off the cab. As i did above. 1/2" all around. I think i looks nice.
If you see it, its for sale.

A lot of people weld a square piece of plate to the frame, turning it so it looks like a diamond on the frame.  Then they weld the legs to that plate.  This spreads the load out a lot more evenly on the frame.

For the ones I make, I make a mount using a piece of 3x4" piece of plate w/a stub welded onto it, as mentioned this allows the force from impact lifting, standing on them etc, to be transfered over a larger section of the frame, and the stub allows the sliders to be bolted on so they are removable for repairs/repaint.

Before you install them, it would be a good idea to replace the body, mounts.  The rubber bushings over time degrade/collapse, which will cause the cab to sit lower, and rock enough to clank on the sliders.  W/fresh body mounts you can leave yourself about an 1/8-1/4" of reveal between the sliders and the body seam.

If you have not bought them yet...

I would not suggest marlins sliders. They are built too thin if you really beat on your rig. Mine are pretty smashed up.

i made mine out of 1-1/2" .120 wall dom tubing. used 5x3x3/16" piece of plate bent at 90 degrees to wrap around the bottom of the frame rail. punched a 1 inch hole in the middle to do a plug weld. welded the plate to the frame, the slider to the plate and threw a nice little gusset on the topof the tube where it contacts the fish plate. Beat the hell out of them and they're still like new.

I got a ? about sliders...

Why are they usually angled up from the frame? I have seen some in action but I still can't figure it out; I thought having them straight from the frame would be better somehow?

Yea, except this years MCR. As I recall, the drivers side gave up the ghost. Just messin Jason.

I've got Marlins, and they are as good or better than anyone elses. They have been scraped, mashed, hi-lifted, winched on, stepped on and just generally abused, and they look just about brand new.

I have marlin's aswhell.  I abused them to all ends.  Besides a few good dents and scrapes they have held up.

the higher the better,  less for them to drag and catch on.

Okay thanks, I was thinking the opposite... I'm getting some from Addicted within the next few weeks and want to make sure I put them on correctly.

I think sliders look better angled, but find them to be more useful when mounted flat.  How you mount them should be based on what you want/need them for, i.e. simply as rocker panel protection or as a place to step/stand as well.
