Pro Tools 105 vs. JD 2 model 3 bender
« on: Jan 17, 2010, 08:42:04 AM »
I am looking for opinions from people who have experience with one or preferably both of these benders. The price is about the same. The only real difference I see is that the JD 2 will do a full 180 degree bend while the Pro Tools will only do a 120 degree bend.(Probably not going to need that ability much).

I know from my own experience, that I've said things very similar to that, only to have to say " I should have bought" down the road. So get the 180* bender and dont ever look back and wonder.

That's what I was thinking. Just wondering if there are any outstanding advantages for one or the other. Probably not.
Thanks.

Just so you know pro tools also offers dies the will bend a full 180, they lable them as 240 degree wrap around dies. They are just not listed on there website, so don't let that be the deciding factor in your purchase

I have the Pro Tool 105 with the 240* die. I can and have bent 180* shock hoops. At the time the deciding factor was JD2 was behind 6 weeks on the die I wanted and Pro tool delivered the same week.
I prefer my pro 105... the degree wheel is way better then JD2 IMHO.

Right on. That's the kind of feedback I need. I wouldn't have known that.

For not that much more coin you can order the jd2 32, witch after a lot of research is what I personally purchased, while there are some draw backs ( mostly the availability of used dies)  The thicker frame the ability to bend thicker tubing and the anti spring back feature sold me.  I also prefer the slightly smaller CLR that jd2 offers (3.5 vs. 4  5.5 vs. 6 ect.)  Either way its hard to go wrong, as they are both good tools.

I would go with the jd 2 the pro tool has a lot things you have to do to bend.
Jd 2 is a lot easier to use.
We have built 5 cages and 3 bumpers with the pro tool and my budy just started useing the jd and loves it so much more simplier.
If your going to run Chevy parts buy one.

Hey Mnmstoy what size die did you use to make that roll cage? I am about to purchase a bender and I'm trying to decide on wich one.  Also the Clr on the 1 3/4" tube dies seams large to me but  :dunno: I have looked at alot of pictures of exos and bumpers and it seems like they where bent in a much sharper (shorter CLR) then what I see available on the websites.   :dunno:

Thanks for all the info. I'm also looking for a good bender. I have  been trying to decide if I should go with the JD2 or pro tools for the last several months. I think I'm sold on the JD2.

I'm using 1 3/4" tubing. I dont have my die with me I would tell you what it is. I want to say 6" I'm not sure pro tool makes a 5.5"  however JD2 does make them.
I'm happy with mine. I'm on my 4th project helping out a buddy.
here we are doing the back half.

We used my Bender to make this Truggy.
