OMG :rofl2:  i think i just pee'd my pants

Hit the transition to a dune at speed, el snappo. Been on my car for a couple years, full hydro, 40s. Nothing else broke, studs were all good, and properly torqued, stops were correct (although I don't see where that would be a factor with this break) knuckle itself is still good to go. When the upper went it put all the load on the lower pin and bearing, bending the ear way up. So now I have to cut the ball off the housing to get the birf out, so the housing is wasted as well.

True, it can and will happen to stock pins too. Thus the reason for Marlin's 25mm kit. But like it was stated on the first page, what material was used to make the pin. If its a stock design with less then stock quality material, all the extra studs in the world wont do you any good.  I dont remember who said it, but they are right, we are reaching the limits of the Toyota design.

Something I've noticed about the steering arms, is if you use ARP studs, and dont over torque them and the steering arms have the correct taper to match the cone washers, and you keep them tight. Then you will never need 6 studs. I know TG sells them, but remember it was Marlin design.

Buddy of mine broke a pin on his Marlin steering arms last Nov.  Studs were tight.  Took us some figuring out to get him off of the trail.  He ended up ordering Marlin's 25mm kit.

Wheel spacers and deep dish rims dont help either.

the only arms ive yet to hear this happening to is Sky's. honestly of all the highsteer arms ive had my hands on they are by far the best designed on the market

Curious, what arms you played with in person, I only ask because I've not heard good things about Sky's product and your comment surprises me.

ive have the few varations of allpro's marlins trail gears skys and OTT ( another great product)  So far  Sky is the only one that actually has the proper cone taper on the arms, Have decent lift and arent long making you have to push the steering box as far forward as most.

Just a little background i worked in a shop for close to 7 years where we damn near just did toyota SAS'... couldnt count the times ive done hysteer/crossover conversions... i could probably move a steering box blind folded >.>

I would think that a short arms would be a problem in strength for the rod end since it would see added torque.

Have you see the 4x4labs arms.

The majority of the time we converted to use hiem joints. Havent seen to many TRE's breaking but mostly studs sheering/tearing out.  What needs to happen instead of all this 5/6 stud BS  is do like companys have been doing with dana 60 knuckles/arms and start adding keyways to help with the sheering forces.

Idealy if i was going to run a toyota axle i would convert to D44 ARP studs/cones and machine my knuckles and arms for a keyway.

As for the 4x4labs arms i think ive only ever seen one pair so im not really in a position to base an opinion on them as i really dont remember much about them. Plus their website is down so i cant look :\

I'lle Give props to Sky. Everything I have ordered from them has been top notch. I have marlin billets, myself. SAS kit and all. But if their quality is the same across the board I would by them before anyone else but marlin. No fitting needed, it just slipped on and welded in placed. Very Nice! i Also have a rear shock bar too.

I just ordered this from them!

All good to hear, I think the only thing that makes me  :sad2: regarding Sky product was I've personlly seen the axle housings fail. Because they dont do any inner bracing like Diamond, Spider Trax and even the new Rough Stuff axle's do. As for their other product I dont know, but it is nice to hear that there is another good company out there.
