What do I do with an '88 cab and chasis?
« on: Nov 22, 2004, 06:26:49 AM »
I will wind up with an '88 Roling chasis (no engine, electronics, trany, etc.) after doing the EFI swap into my '81.
I got the bug to build something I can go play fast and hard in the dirt with. Any ideas what I could do with the '88?
P.S.  :nonono:  Nobody get funny with that last question now.  :nonono:

BAJA!!!! since u took all the electronics out jus put a carb engine on it and do the propane swap, i think its 100-110 octane... and bam, no probs with carb adjustment and you can haul ass in the desert!! since u got a 4x4 why not have a BAJA to!! well later dude :beerchug:

I am intrigued. Propane? Never heard of it in racing. Tell me more. As for BAJA, I like it.

dont know much either... i am planning on eventually getting this setup for my truck, although it will be a crawler... dont know much about octane rating but the higher the octane the better right?? i already put a post up a long time ago about the propane conversion but i cant find it.... but n e ways its lighter than gas "dont know how much" cheaper than gas with todays gas prices.. "$1.89" compared to "$2.34 on up"!!! for gas.... engine will last longer... no carbon build up or far less build-up than gas.... and hell this thing will always pass smog!!! iv seen this setup used on crawlers and am interested in seeing it used on desert racers... oh and another thing is they are far less complicated or have far les things to fail than on a gas setup... did i mention u never have to adjust another carb again to?? well have fun whatever you do to your rig dude!!! :beerchug: gotpropane.com

What I have been told about the octane rating in fuel is:
Straight gas (zero octane) is highly explosive. Very damaging to engines. The octane rating is increased (what the addative or process to increase "otane" is, I don't know) to slow down the explosion to become a slow burn. This allows for more power to be extracted from the gas during the combustion process. The higher the octane the slower the burn, the slower the burn the higher compression ratio the engine can run without pre-ignition thus the more powerful the engine is. Thus

the higher the octane the better right??

Don't take this for gospel, maybe some of our resident experts can confirm this or enlighten us on this.

I am going to have to do some research on Propane for race.

Post parts for sale.  Recoup the lost expenses?
Some idiots are too busy knowing it all, to ever learn anything...

I think desert racing is going to be the thing to do.
Now I look for performance parts to make it happen.
