OK still won't start
« on: Nov 18, 2004, 08:08:00 PM »
Well I have gone over everything about a 100 times and still won't start. will just cough and sounds like it wants to start. The only thing I can think of know is that the gas went bad over last winter. Does anyone know an easy way to drain the tank (86 4runner).
thanks everyone

shoot... is it carb or fuel injection? on my truck, there is a drain plug on the bottem of the tank. if you dont have one, best idea is to drop the tank and dump the sucker out.. and replace your fuel filter make sure no lines are clogged

OK I'm back online computer went down. It has a 22re and no drain plug in the tank. I was thinking of taking the fuel line of the filter that is under the intake and letting the fuel pump do the work what do you think?

I suppose you could hot wire your fuel pump with a line cracked and pump it all out, but it seems like its unnecsessary. Are you sure your tank doesnt have a plug in the bottom of it? Every Toyota EFI tank Ive seen has a drain plug, even my MR2.

When I build my stage 2 engine in my MR2, my car had sat for a year with about 1/4 tank in it. So I just grabbed a couple of gallons and put it in thinking it would be ok. Well I had rebuilt my engine and it would not start. I played around with it for so long and I finally got it to start but it had no power and it was like my timing was off like -20 degrees. But the header was at a normal temp so it wasnt spitting unburned fuel out... It was so late I just went home. The next day I was just thinking about the gas, so I completely drained all of the fuel and put in 5 gallons of 91oct and it fired straight up after a couple of seconds of cranking. Power was normal, everything was working perfectly. I had the timing set right and both cams were timed right, it was just the crappy gas. It really makes a difference...

I get out and look again for the drain plug and let you know. The truck sat all last winter and this summer so I think the gas is the problem
