I have a 1980 Pickup with a 3 inch body lift. The Front leaf springs look almost flat when the truck is just sitting. The rear springs, however, have a nice bow to them. Is there any way i could just replace the Front Leafs? What springs could i get for the front so that i could keep the stock ones in the rear?  I do not have hi-steer and cannot afford it at this time(next year!!) Any help would be appreciated

If you cant afford new springs you can make a custom pack out of rears for the front. I did it using the main leaf from a set of pro comp 2 inch lift springs and thin spring packs out of stock toyrota rears. if you use your stock front main leaf and replace some of the flat springs with curved ones it should help.    :hammerhead:

goto a junk yard and get some leaf packs from a old S10 2wd or a F150 2wd take them apart and put a leaf into each of your front packs

sounds to me like your truck is still stock, if I am correct they usually apear to sit like that. I would leave it if its stock and if not then mix them as stated above but if you do rears up front or put in any other main leaf you will need high steer because the axle will move from stock location.

There's also Wagoneer springs... but there's a little bit of modification involved.

That, or I did mine the hard way.  :hammerhead:

Hi,
It is correct that the original front springs are almost flat, I have a 89 it was the same from the day I got it (first owner) and is the same now.

If you have stock steering and lift front too much, stock drag link will angle badly :shocking:

My answer to this and next move is
Trying to get Right-Hand high steer and new leafs for the front and dished wheels, will need help from you guys in this regard  :) or make your own spring packs as advised

Nihal, you can get a dropped drag link to help when you install the lift ( :psss: I have one lying on my floor now) or you can also do the classic "J-Arm Ball Flip" which is located here: http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=33240.0

For the RHD hi-steer... don't the arms come with 2 holes on each; allowing the customer to run either left or right side steering? Oh wait, just checked... I'm  :screwy: .
I have no idea where to go from here; good luck finding/making a custom RHD hi-steer! And be sure to send pictures when it's done!

Hi Dan,

No the LH steering arms dont have two holes, was wishing the same as it would have made things much simpler  ;) but then the steering geometry will be out anyway.

I also read up the ball flip thread but I am not a good welder and dont have the facilities that you guys have to just go out and buy the parts. I even asked :turtle: could make one set for me, its the mess of setting up the CNC programe and drawings just for one set, so,,,, bad luck for me  :shake:

Like I said will think of something and go step by step, only way I see it right now :crossed:

Tks for your good response
