Arc welding is stronger.  Weld the spider gears together, then weld the spider gears to the housing they are in.  It is the strongest way.  No pics though.

When I welded my third's I welded all four corners of the spider's(both side's)made two steel plate's(3/8ths) dropped them between the spider's and welded them all the way around the spider's,solid and strong been running this way for around 4 year's with no prob's.

just yesterday i welded up my rear for the second time. the first time, my carrier went bad because i drove my truck on  the road so much. so the carrier went bad before the welds broke. the gears were torn. just welded all 4 corners of where the spiders meet and it has held up fine so far

The first rearend I welded up was like dont stall's  I ended up welding it back together 3 times before I finally gve up and changed it out for another one.  The only way that you can do it that will hold up is as 84 toy describes.  Thats how Ive done the last few I've welded and they hold great.

so WT  your saying the only way to weld them and keep them in one peice is to ad some "wedges" into the spiders to help hold them inplace ?? ???

you might as well man up and get either a Detroit or an ARB.  You are wasting time and welding rods , not to mention the amount of axles you are going to break.  ARB, baby!!!

break axles...? depends what kind of rear end he is running. im guessing toyota but im not sure. i have never heard of axles breaking, but i have heard of carriers going bad, or r&p going out but never broken axles... not toyota at least. unless your running some 39 inch boggers on stock axles  :smack:

well i run 33's with toyota axles , and i dont stomp the gas and drop the clutch in 4lo,  but do wonder what it would do say towing a trailer, or hauling some firewood around town

If you are going to have any sizable amount of weight in the bed or on the rear axle do NOT weld the rear end!  I wouldnt even put a locker in it.  All you will do is destroy parts beings pavement=high traction+weighted rearend+locker=lots of broken $hit!!  Its either selectible of nothing saddly.
