they dont have any power anyways!  about the only mods you could do without spending a crapload would be to put more free flowing exhaust on and colda air intake.  Headers are really expensive for those engines and are a PITA to install. they probly wouldnt be worth the money.

Need a little more specific. Did it just loose power or did you just get it? if it lost what power it had I might be able to help. If you just got it sorry they call em 3.slows and 3.blows for a reason...

From everything I've heard, it's quite the contrary.  The stock manifolds are super restrictive and poorly designed.

3.0s aren't quite as simple or reliable, but with a proper exhaust setup, they ARE far more powerful than the 22R series engines.  The OEM manifolds are junk.  Optimally, you would have um... 2.0 inch exhaust x2(each side separate), but that's a lot of money.  2.5 inch is fine if they are going to the same muffler.

BUT... expect such a mod to run $600+ in parts.

i had a 94 4runner with a 3.0 v6 4:30 gearing w/5 speed and 31 inch tires. Power OK but not impressive for a v6. I'm sure it had more power than a 22re. I just drove an extra cab with v6,31's, 4:10 and 5 speed. really felt like a slug. Then I tested another extra cab same set up but with 4.56 gearing. Much better results. I think gearing, is the real answer for more usable power.. :burnout:  with the 3.0. Also an auto is going to rob some zip. Throw a 5 speed in it.

swapping from auto to manual, helped alot on my 4Runner, i did a full cab harness swap, engine harness swap and went with everything manual related from my donor rig.... these 3.Slows are hit and miss engines... although all are sluggish for a V6. but Hmmm i bet you have a timing issue or vacuum leak/vac line mix-up.

We need more info on what its doing to be sluggish..

Note - about the "sluggish", if you are changing the transmission, consider swapping in a lighter flywheel.  Most people complain about larger engines being slower off the line because it takes them longer to rev up to their power band.(often a full second longer than a small I4 engine)  Oh - and a manual as well, the automatic effectively robs it of about 20-25% of its usable power.  Some is actually losses, but a lot is the time it takes to shift and get moving.  It is a miserable automatic, really - as to be expected of 1980s technology.  It has the same "feel" as the early 80s GM crap, in fact - like the entire engine is attached to a box of viscous goo.  Absolutely no sense of immediacy.
