new battery and alternator failed after 2 weeks
« on: Nov 22, 2009, 05:15:24 PM »
So about 2 weeks ago my 97 4runner wouldnt start so i took it to get tested ended up having a bad battery and alternator.  Replaced them and now it wouldnt start this morning,  took it to auto zone and had it tested again and both battery and alternator are bad again. i figure there to be a drain some where in the car that is causing this :pokinit: to fail but i spent about 2 hours today trying to problem solve a problem that was not found.  im lost any one have any ideas to what this could possible be.

i just had the same problem with my 95 suburban,  the problem was the large wire (about the size of a thin pen) that went from the battery to the alternator so the charge went directly to the battery had rubbed a hole in the insulation and shorted out,  dude replaced that small cable and its fine and dandy

i did notice that the wires off the both positive and negative terminals have  corrosion on the wires but i have no clue how to get rid of the except to replace all the f**ked up wires but thats a lot of work that i do not want to do.  in the morning ill take a look at the alternator supply wire and see

i had a system put in it and the shop didnt hide any of the wires so they run under my seats and floor mats and i noticed that my memory wire was wedge between the back seat bracket and the carpet, i couldnt get it out cause i didnt want to break the wire and then have another problem and so i was wondering if the wire was cut and is grounding off of the bracket but idk if that would be the cause

thank you for the help ill get back and let you know the 411 on every thing u
