vibration problem and rear lock question
« on: Nov 12, 2004, 07:45:35 PM »
i get this vibration in the seat of the pants, at around 2500-3300rpm. nothing drastic but noticable, especialy when down shifting and coming to a stop. I just recently replaced my clutch (about 500miles ago) with a marlin heavey duty kit. also replaced the fly wheel, and t-case. and rear d-shaft. hoping these things would get rid of the problem. because i needed a clutch, the rear output bearing on the t-case was shot, and the drive shaft was dented. i had a spare case and shaft, so did all this at once. its anoying me and i want to fix it. the only things i can think of is possibly the shaft is out of balance, or possibly the motor and or tranny mounts. but other than that i feel as though im chasing my own tail trying to figure this out. any help or advice would be great.

second problem/question i have is. i just regeared and installed a detroit no-spin in the rear. on take off and while shifting gears it seems like there is an excessive amount of backlash. its like i let out the clutch and then theres a clunk and i go, same with between shifts. is this normal, cause of the size of the dawgs in the detroit or is there somthing wrong here???
thanks in advance, kory

1) check the u-joints I bet that is what your prob is

2) how hard of a clunck are you getting? how old is the locker? and a little clunk is normal with an older detroit locker.

There is ~1/4 turn of slop with a Detroit normally. Wait till it locks at 60 on the freeway or ratchets in the store parking lot lol. Yes some slop is normal, you can adjust your driving style to minimize the effects. Mine does not clunk shifting gears unless I am on the gas good.

u-joints are new. the detroit only has about 800 miles on it. as for the clunk, depends on how im driving. if i drive like a complete grandma its barley noticable. but if im on the gas or release the clutch to fast its very audiable and will snap your head back. also some times it will pull to the left.

havent had it lock up at 60 yet, but i know what you mean about the parking lots. i have to make a u turn every time i pull into my apartment, so i almost have that down packed. so some slop is normal, cool. thanks for the reassurance, just wanted to make sure that it was suppose to act that way.
