Closures were lifted on November 10th and there are no new closures planned at this time. I think that is a well done for the wheelers that use the rubicon as there were virtually no violations of the closure order.

At a recent meeting the two (2) most prevelant concepts for preventing restrictions at Spider and L'il Sluice were to make it a requirement that all vehicles be street legal, it IS a county road, and to remove the monster boulders from L'il Sluice reducing its impact as a play area.
Some idiots are too busy knowing it all, to ever learn anything...

what impact would this have on the wheelin community?  I have never been up there, so i dont know

Make a street legal requirement!!!! The whole point of going up there for a lot of people is to be able to get through and say "I wheeled the Rubicon".  It's awsome out there and all, but if making a requirement that all vehicles be street legal, we have some sorry society.

I think that the best way to keep it up is to charge a yearly fee for being out there.  That way, only the true at heart wheelers can go out there, take their crap out, and enjoy the nature.  You know that the clubs that go out there (Jeeper's Jamboree, Pirates, etc.) would not have a problem paying a few bucks a year for a pass so that they can enjoy the trail.

I think that the trail does need to be closed off for about 2 years so that the vegetation can grow back after dipsh**s chopping up trees and making their own trails.

I've been workin on my truck and my dream is to take it out on my 21st birthday and take it through the 'Con, sorry if I come off a bit upset.  It's a shame that we have to put all these restrictions on the trail like this.  I've been out there hiking the trail several times (as my rig isn't done yet), and both my boyfriend and myself have packed out full backpacks of other peoples beer cans and bottles, axle parts etc.  People should know without having to be told to take out their sh** and appreciate the land while we can.

I think I am glad I got to see the rubicon before it became a theme park. Plenty of other trails to see and enjoy..

The sad thing is that it's been really bad just the past year give or take, and it's only gonna get worse if something drastic isn't done about it. :shakehead:

I don't see that, I have been driving that trail for the past 15 years and it doesn't seem any worse to me, just more publisized..

That's what I mean, the publicity is the problem...isn't it? It's the publicity that is creating the restrictions and intensifying the restrictions.  ???

FWIW, the street legal only idea was tossed out a couple months ago. The new issues are camping. The FS was making a push for banning dispersed camping. It looks like they may back off that now. The next public meeting has been postponed until March 19th. It will be in placerville at the county fairgrounds.

Hey cruzilla when you think about it the street legal idea aint too bad nd if push comes to shove I think that is the best idea (next to mandatory pack it in pack it out toilets wich should be in effect anyway).  A lot of people may say they're building their trucks for wheelin' so what's the point.  Well my moms truck is street legal yet it'll make it through the rubicon and so will my dads and cruzilla your mini and cruiser are the same way.  my point is you can still be street legal and built up pretty well.

greenmachine

True, a street legal rig can go along way.

CrabDiggs

That is true, a street legal rig can do a lot, especially if it's a Toyota and u really push the limits, but isn't that the point.  To push the limits.  I've been wheelin my 88 4runner on the con since 2000, with an average of 10 times a year.  I absolutely love it and feel at home out there. However doing the same thing everytime would get old, and thats why you and your rig should progress. When u wheel as much as me and my friends do, you brake stuff and upgrade parts religiously. Thank u Marlin. Becoming a trailer queen is almost inevitable unless your dead set against it.  In my opinion the only problem is all of the people who go out in rigs that are not set up and have no knowledge about their rig or about what to do if they break.  I cant count how many people I've personally helped out just to get them out of the way. And most important-everything u haul in, u haul out. If the abundances of 4wheelers who come through that area aren't respectful of mother nature, that's what will ruin it for everybody.

come on, it is the national forest. Ok maybe it is a "county road" but if only street legal vehicles were allowed how about mountain bikes and horses, hikers etc. I in NO WAY agree that it should be street legal only, even though evey vehicle I have ever driven on the trail was - that was MY choice..

Do you realize that we ALLREADY pay for it? It's not an off road park, it is your forest with a trail through it. I have been running that trail for over 15 years and before that my dad did the same - charge and I will never go on it again.

close it and it won't re-open..

Maybe this is the problem, people think the rubicon is the only trail around, come awn - Barrett, Fordyce, etc etc etc etc

:psss: I wasn't agreeing to making a street legal requirement, I guess I relayed that poorly.  I was :yikes: "make it street legal" :yikes: as in no way!

Just thinking about it and, how can they charge you for driving down a county road? I don't think they can. That said they should be able to site those vehicles not street legal too.

that part does bug me and maybe conflicts with my ideals on the thing..

Keep the citing to THE PAVED ROAD..

I guess really you can get a mud flap ticket INSIDE an SVRA like prarie city but that would be pretty low of a cop!
