about a month ago i was having some starting problems so i got a new cap and wires. that seemed to fix it until i let my truck sit for a while. now the motor turns over but doesnt start at all. there is gas going to it and i havent checked for a spark yet. i tried bumpstarting it and it will not start. the battery has juice becuase all the stero and light componets work fine. anyone got any tips on what to check next?

is the motor spinning and not starting or does it just do nothing, in which case you need a starter,   go with the gear reduction starter

OK, time for some "shade tree" exprtease! here's what to do, just put the coil wire end in your hand and grab the fender. then have some one crank the truck! if your eyes light up you've got spark, if not chack ing.

now mike will come along and tell ya not to do that!  :smack:

butt ya got to see if you have spark, NOW!   :psss:  :beerchug:
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

even butter stick your tounge in the hole on the front of the coil and then crank her over.

yeah, checked, there is no spark. there are these little things in the distributor, the contact points, that can be replaced i was told. just some phillips screws. gonna replace those tomorrow and see what happens  :crossed:

Mike D

Yes they are replaceable but it is not mechancial pionts it is an air gap style piont that is not adjustable and expensive. if you are getting no spark at all then check out your coil and igniter

ok  from the pass side look at the carb,  right at the top on the pass side is a small solenoid with a wire coming out of it,   get you a piece of wire and run to a key on source , and attach to the plug ,  going to the solenoid,

$20  says it fixes it
