Anybody hear of Mahindra?  I just saw a truck in the new Peterson's mag that they are an Indian company and going to sell here in the U.S. in 2009 or early 2010.  I did a little research on them and found out that they are small 2.2liter I4 turbo diesel with a triptronic 6 speed trans - 2 and 4wd.

I bet these trucks are going to be the next gen of trail rigs if they don't turn into the KIA of the truck world.

I kinda like the looks of this one:

Yeah I saw those in Petersons too. Interested to see one in person. Don't know much about India's automobile industry, but if they are reliable, stout, and well built you very well could be right. Not bad looking either...

Too bad they dont have solid front axles or manual trannys...

From what I read, they contracted to build willys jeeps back in the 50's and have been building utility vehicles ever since.  They have also been building and selling tractors here for about 10 years.

The first on my list would be some armor and a SAS with 37's.  The triptronic 5 speed trans might actually be nice for crawling - you could select what gear you want and it should stay there without hunting.  I bet it would still need a lower range transfer case though.

Interesting. I thought I had heard the name Mahindra before I saw that article. Makes sense now. I will definitely be keeping a close eye on these as they debut and start to sell in the USA.

I'm working on a chop of what one would look like with a lift, bigger tires and a bobbed bed since the the departure angle sucks, but all I have is MS Paint to do it with.  Can somebody try this that has photoshop and maybe stretch the wheel wells out a bit for the bigger tires.  I did a little research and people say that 30" tires fit, but 31's rub - sounds like it needs a little massaging.

Here's a couple pics to start out with:

From what I've HEARD, in regards to most things in China and India is, because it's to expensive to work over here in the U.S. we send all of our stuff to India and China who have no regard for Trade Mark laws or Patens. So when we send plans to them, so that they can build us something for less, they copy those plans for them selves. So I wouldn't be surprised if parts from this new manufacturer worked with various other vehicles from the U.S.  :blah:

They've been producing their version of jeeps for years.
