Lexus 2JZ Swap help- calling BigMike
« on: Oct 08, 2009, 08:19:17 PM »
all right, i picked up a 2jzGte out of a JDM out of an aristo

im putting it in my 92 4runner, i have the original r150 5 speed here

i would like to know how to bolt a toyota 4wd trans to the motor, i do not care if it is an auto or manual, but manual would be easier as it has no wiring or TCU .

what about a tundra trans?? convert a 2wd lexus trans to 4wd??

i need the Marlin or Bigmike trans gurus to help out here

thanks guys

I know a 5 speed manual belhousing out of a Lexus IS300 or SC300 combined with a w56 trans would work, but I don't think it could hold up to the tourque your 2jzgte is putting out.

Maybe a auto trans from a supra or Gs300 combined with t100 trans parts to get 4wd and maybe the Inchworm adaptor?  :headscratch:  Not too sure, just throwing ideas out there....

Ok, what you need to do is get the bellhousing and flywheel from a 2.5-liter 1JZ engine (found in the JZA70 Supra) and then run a 7M-GTE clutch. Search Google for 2ZJ R154 and you should find a LOT of resources on how to do this. 1JZ = 2JZ bellhousing bolt pattern, and the 1JZ came with the R154 transmission. Do some more searches for 1JZ transmission R154, etcetera

We have been building our RACE R154 Transmissions for MANY 2JZ Supra and Lexus owners, replacing the 6 speed box with the 5 speed R154 box.

Have you tried and JDM engine importers, like Attarco, Watanabe, or All-Engines Distributing? I guess you could even try Jeff over at Toy-Connection and see if he has any international hook-ups: Toy-Connection, San Jose, (408) 988-4040‎

You might try the venders on Supraforums, or Supramania, both the 1and2j swaps are popular amongst the MKIII('86.5-92) Supra owners.

It's a long shot, but check with jarco.  Don't have a link or number, but it should come up with a quick google search.  I'm 99% sure they've imported various supra engines (as well as toy diesels and the jap 240z engines), and it seems like he's had various other bellhousings available.

is there a reason for not running a twinturbo setup that is at low   r.p.m's   or is it just uneeded and to clutered?

its cluttered, massive amounts of coolant lines, oil lines, ect, i like simple and clean. but the biggest reason- i sold the twins already :D

don't know if you've found a bellhousing off of a 1jz yet but I found some on craigslist for ya.  Theyre expensive boogers.

the 7m is badass- but if your going to go throiugh all the work, the 2j is a far better swap- might as well do it right the first time eh?

it just like swapping in a new 22re when you have a 3rz laying around- doesnt make any sense
