the purple stuff from zep at home depot. i used that stuff on my resto 85 4x4. it will take off paint and id also takes off skin!

i took my front axle to the local carwash and sprayed with purple stuff then used the engine degreaser setting

Biodegradeable cleaners are only biodegradeable until you use them to clean something. Once it is full of grease and crap it is just as bad as oil.
