Kyle, what do you recommend in filters? Is there a brand that is good but cheap?

Depends on what type of shot.
For landscape, Circular Polorizer and a Neutral Density 0.9 filter, Hoya and Heliopan make some nice ones.
That is probably the only filters I would invest in.
The rest can be done in photoshop.

Neutral density is a solid darker filter, right? Which is the half dark and half clear?

So, I grabbed a couple of shots with the wife's camera this morning.  I really need to read the book a little.

Nice DOF, nice coloring!
All I would do is straighten the horizon.
Looks like you're going to have some fun with that one!

Thanks Kyle.  I really wasn't in the mood to run out the door at 7 am to take pictures that morning.  Yeah, this little camera kicks my D70's ass in alot of ways.  But you are talking about 5 years difference in cameras.

On a side note, I donated some pictures I framed for the Outdoor School fundraiser that I volunteer at, and got some enthusiasm to get more pictures.  And I got some names and numbers of some people that want to buy some of my stuff.   :willynilly:

Nice.
Watch that horizon line and your saturation levels though.

Ha, I didn't even notice the horizon. Thanks :)

What do you mean by saturation levels?

The blue sky is a little too bright blue and is distracting from the focus of the picture, which I can assume was in the shade?
Switching to "spot" metering will draw more focus to your subjects (when small like that) if there is a brighter background.

All depends on how close you are. Spot meters the center 9% of your image. As it is now, your subject is too dark.

Quite possibly one of my best photograph, and the most important to me. In remembrance of my best friend, Tom Marovich, who was killed during a training excercize at a fire in Nor-Nor-Cal in 2009. The capitol flew the flag at half mast. Drove up to Sacramento to snap some pictures. A couple slight changes in Lightroom...

Taken with my Sony A100, with a Sigma 70-300mm lens. Currently have this picture framed above my computer desk.

Thanks. I'm trying to work on my "creative" side. It is difficult though.

Sometimes, I think my creative side is lost in another galaxy.

Your last picture Kyle, almost creeps me out!!  :ack:  Borderline horror movie style.  First thought, Children of the Corn!!  :outtahere:

Lately I've been very frustrated, the lighting has been incredible lately, and I just haven't had time to stop and get pictures.  Been so busy.  But there is a point that I get tired of packing my camera everywhere, and I'm not enjoying the moment.  So, there are times I have to forget the camera.  But I'm still making mental notes on where to go!!  And there is one spot I really want to go, but I need to buy some rope and a harness, and climb down to the river about 50 feet below the road.  So, my fat ass needs to get in shape.
