Can someone explain why the detroits come apart when axels snap?  Is this just when the axel snaps or when birfields break to?  I have a detroit in my truck and I blew two stock birfs before I put longfields in and everything seems to be all good but I haven't taken the 3rd member out to check it.  Should I pull it out to inspect??

The shock load created by the axle shaft or birfield breaking is transmitted into the locker and can break it by slamming it in the opposite direction violently. Since there is backlash in the gears and quite a bit of play comparatively in the Detroit, they have been known break. I personally would leave it alone if all seems well and you have been running it.

Sounds good   I went wheeling this weekend and it did great but people started talking about it and it started to get me a little bit scared.  I realize that their in no such thing as a bullet proof rig.

You could always take a peek at the oil and look for debris for piece of mind.
