Grip shift idle adjuster build
« on: Sep 01, 2009, 06:44:51 PM »
just got done making it. was pretty easy and ended up only costing like $15

started with my inch worm shift knobs. i was hoping to be able to use the tranny shift knob it was way too big.

started by cutting the knob down with a sawzall. then i ground it all down to 7/8"
you can see in the pics that the lower part of the knob was already 7/8".

once that was done i took the piece off the throttle body that the foot pedal goes to. for some reason there are two of the throttle cable guides. one was in reverse direction so i cut it off and welded the two together. then drilled a hole next to the pedal cable for the grip shift cable to go through. ran the cable and housing through the fire wall. that's about it was pretty easy.

oh ya almost forgot the only bad part is the cabl pulls alot. i was hopeing it would be less. its a 7 speed shifter and on the 7th click its at full throttle. on the first click with it in neutral
the rpm's are way hi. hoping it works out once its in gear and under load

EDIT: just fixed the problem. there an adjuster on the shifter so i was able to fine tune the first click

I had a little problem with the idle running high when i would stop with my traditional style hand throttle.... it seemed like it would just get hung up on the last 1/4'' of return.  I put a stiffer throttle return spring, problem solved. Just something to consider if you have a similar prob.

Definitly, pretty cool.  The wheels are turning, time to fire up the lathe and mill.
