is your exhaust leak befor the o2 sensor??  if so get it fixed,  sounds like maybe your airflow meter may be dirty,  Hey Mike need your savy here

the exhaust leak is after the o2 sensor starting to get noisey  how do i clean the afm with carb or choke cleaner?

79coyotefrg

yea just pull the filter off so you can get to it and clean those little wires good with carb clean,  engine off ! ! !

check your o2 sensor too

how do i check my 02 sensor is there a way to test it or clean it?

BigMike

I dont think it would be an exhaust leak. For that to affect the o2 sensor, it would be very loud and quite noticable!

So are you saying that it runs just fine once warmed up?

Well if the leak is after the o2, even just inches after, then its not a problem if it is occuring during load...

it only acts up after it warms up when its cold its fine

BigMike

How is your EGR valve? The EGR is only used once the computer sees a single from the temp sensor atop the thermostat housing. If it is stuck open, then once the computer trys to turn it on, its gonna dump exhaust into your intake charge and would cause your described effect..

Also I've heard of fuel filters that operate strangly only after they have gotten hot, like after driving on the freeway and then coming to a stop the engine will die, and its because the fuel filter is hot. Something to do with when the filter gets hot it doesnt flow as well and the engine is choked..

Just my opinion, BUT........a few years ago I helped out a downtrodden fried by buying her an old Nissan sentra(mainly so she would stop drivin my Toy), and after she moved she called me up cryin cause it ran fine cold, but lost power and would only go 20mph once it warmed up.  I checked it out and her cat was plugged up and wouldn't allow it to breath adequately once the choke opened, hope it helps,  Nate

i hadnt even thought about the egr valve i recently replaced the egr transducer ($100) the catylitic converter only has 5,000 miles on it so that shouldnt be a problem and the fuel filter has maybe 10,000 on it!thanks for the thoughts and info

Just had the same prob with my bro's truck we bought the universial o2 sensor for 75 bucks it runs fine know

10000 on a fuel filter :dunno:  unless you get super clean gas from a brand new station, i'd say spend 5 bucks on a new fuel filter :smack:
