New truck needs a tranny
« on: Aug 16, 2009, 11:24:12 PM »
Hey,
new guy not new to forums. I'm gettin a 89 toyota pickup with a  22re and a 5spd 4x4 tomorrow. the tranny makes a growling kinda noise almost all the time but is worse when down shifting or using gears to slow down. Don't know whats in it but i was reading a little bit and it seems there is like 6 trannies in these suckers. any help would be greatly appreciated

Should be a w series if it's efi, g series if it's carbed.  Will bolt up identically, but there could be very minor differences between the years that you'll have to smooth over.

Did you look at the id tag in the door jam and verify that you had a w56 or g58?  Kinda helps to know these things ahead of time
