What motor oil are you guys using in your 22r-re? Every one i have talked to says 10-40 but it has lots of detergent. How about rotella 15-40? oh yeah i live in az and only see cold a few times per year. Thanks..... :psss:

during the HOT summer, July- august i sometimes run 20/50,  but 15/40 would be ok,  even though its made for diesels

I run 10w30 here in Vermont.  I almost always use mobil drive clean, it really does stay clean looking longer than most oil.  I have been considering going to 5w30 since it is about to be real cold for the next 5 or 6 months.  Anybody else in cold climates have any comments on this?

i run cheapo 10w40 right now.  when the new engine is built i'll probably run 5w-30 for break-in then run rotella synthetic 5-40 afterwards :beerchug:

i run 15-40 in the summer and 5-30 in the winter much much better on cold start ups if you didnt allready know the oil acts like a 5 wieght oil at 0 degrees and a 30 wieght at 210 degrees by the way w stands for winter. multi viscocity oils do not really "change" wieght or viscocity as they are heated.they still thin from an increase in temperaturejust not as fast as single viscocity oils. multi viscosity can be thought of as a resistance to tninning due to heat. just remember stay with good quality oils like napa(valvloine) or chevron thats what i have always used!  have fun

hawaii500_1999

i run cheveron supreme.

5-30 in a brand new motor up to 5,000 miles

10-30 between 5,000 and 100,000

20-50 100,000 and up.

i don't get fancey with my motor oils.  i just change them regularley and my motors last just fine.  not to say that the fancey stuff isn't good.  i just don't feel they are neccesary for your motor to last.  keeping your motor in tune , changing the oil regularly and not beating on it all the time i find helps them to last a long time.

im  from california (bay area) but for now im in idaho going to school i cant wait to go play in the snow i also agree with the previous post on regularly changing the oil just remember there is a diference in oil quality and additives  that are in them if anything make sure the oil has the SAE seal on it and has the API seal

Read these and all your questions will be answered.  Print out and read the "motor oil bible" if you can.  Then you can form your own opinion about what is best for you.

I run 0w30 Amsoil Series 2000 in my Turbo Toy truck.  Cost more but I only change once a year.  Same goes for my 3 other cars.

lots of good ideas....I live in az so I see allot of heat but in the winter i climb to higher elevations and see  single digits and snow....I like the rotella because its an industrial oil (gas and desiel) and seems to hold oil pressure better twards the end of my oil change in the heat... Thanks guys for your input going to use the advice this winter....

I'll check out those sites, but real quick, how many times do you change your oil filters per year?

I change the Amsoil filter at about 10-12k miles and the oil at about 20+k or once a year whatever comes first.  They recommend 12.5k filter and 25k oil.  If you want to have the ultimate oiling system run their Bypass filter kit and their preluber(basically an accumulator).  Then your engine will last a reaallly long time.

I also use a Ford filter instead of the Toyota, more capacity and more filtration.  Since I have a factory turbo I also have the toyota oil cooler.

20w-50 and a bottle of lucas, runnin a napa gold 1068 for a filter, the trucks call for a 1348, but the 4 runners call for a 1068, its like 2wce the size of the 1348, im probably gonna step down to 10w-40 for the winter

Thats intersting.....but in my last 22re, it had bad mains and rods, i was runnin 2 bottles of lucas and 3q. of 40wt and i think thats the only reason it stay alive so long, when i tore the motor down, even after it was sitting for 2 weeks, all the internals had a thick coat of luacas/motor oil on them, so i kinda swear by it, jus my  :twocents:
