Hello All
I have an 87 22re 4runner. I did a timing job on it last weekend and when I was reading the Chilton's Manuel it says  on EFI models to jump some connecter J and E that runs to the distributor.
I only found 1 connector and when its disconnected or jumped it will not start. So I by passed this step and used a timing light and set it to 5 deg. I used the kind of timing light that goes to the battery and to the plug # 1. Does all of this sound correct? Maybe the motor is from a different year?
It runs a lot better now, it was at about 20 deg.

By the way this Chiltons manuel sucks, should have bought the Hayes

It's 5 degrees with the connector jumped.

Ends up about 12 without the jumper.

It's a round connector on the inner fender,in front of coil in engine compartment.

With my 86, there's 2 connectors that are plugged in next to each other into a rubber holder on the inner fender.   Jump the wires in the smaller of the 2 connectors.

Thanks again
Ill try this and See what happens,
Hopefully I don't get the "inability to set correct base timing" guess I need to try and search that one.

I have a hard time pulling up anything good when I do a search
