You don't get to play if you have, or had, a job that required you to type fast

My first try tonight yielded crappy results:
Net Speed:     41 WPM
(words/minute)
Accuracy:    97%
Gross Speed:    42 WPM
(words/minute)

I tried 3 times on a slightly different test at the smart center today, thought I was doing poorly but hit 52 accurate the last time :yikes:  I was constantly bumping back to fix words and change to capitols where I missed them.  I honestly don't know how I'm getting over 25 with all the mistakes I'm making.

I'll give it a whirl when I'm not on the netbook...it might even things out since I do have to type a lot at work, but engineers range from hundreds of words per minute to one and two finger typing so I think I can fly under the radar.

Now that's no fair Nate!  LOL.  We should just be required to disclose that info.  I'm going to take the test in a minute out of curiousity, but the last time I took one of these, the results screen said:

"copying and pasting does not improve your typing skills!"

   no joke!

EDIT:  Ok here are my results:

Net Speed:  102 WPM

Accuracy: 96%
Gross Speed:  106 WPM

And on these tests they always have to throw in a ton of capitals within sentences, quotations, special characters....anything to give you anxiety and trip you up!  LOL

How did you get a net higher than gross?  You'd make a great boss until the IRS came to town!

You're missing the point, your NET score must be lower than your GROSS score.  Is this why oil prices are so stinking high?  :haha:

Not with the exacting accuracy it'd take to get a high score...  Form my head I'm making it up as I go along, yes I catch my spelling mistakes and go back for them but otherwise I know ahead of time whats next.

What keyboard I have makes an enormous difference.  The old Apple Extended Keyboard II, for instance, I could top out 120-130wpm.  My current one is closer to 60-80 - a very good (used) one with key switches in it(retails for about $120-$140 new).  Crappy ones like the new Apple "chicklet/Atari 400" keyboard or a crummy membrane/soft touch keyboard... maybe 30-35wpm.

Oh - I never learned to touch-type.  I do hunt-and-peck.  Just with all ten fingers at once. :)
