Well, i finally got my Marlin High Steer arms on and made a tie rod and drag link.  Drove it a few hundred yards around the shop last night, and  the first thing i noticed was that my turning radius was way less.  I mounted an 87' power steering box i think.  Do they usually have  less travel?   I can take some pics of how everything is mounted....pretty much the normal way.  The bottom bolt holes are almost level with the ground ( the bolt on the right is a tad bit higher).  ANyway,, wondering if i fawked something up.  DO the little bearings in the box have anything to do with the mamount of travel.  Oh, and i found the center of the travel of the pitman arm.....soun the wheel a total of about 2.8 rotations, and then went back 1.4 and put the arm on.  It seems as though it is correct, just the travel isn't that much

Aside from that stuff, it felt really solid.  I tried driving over some bumps, and  i noticed no bumpsteer at all....it felt so much better.

Thanks fellas for any insight.

when i installed mine i didnt notice a difference in turning radius.
i did notice that it didnt turn as fast though.
but once i got used to it i didnt have a problem with it.
just took me a couple of days of driving to adjust.

Well you want the pitman arm to be parallel to the frame rail, so you should have made your drag link accordingly. As the pitman arm moves, the rate of wheel position drops as the pitman arm becomes perpendicular to the frame rail.

All IFS boxes have the same travel.

How long did you make your pitman arm? The longer it is the more steering you'll have but at the cost of less wheel rotations which means a bit harder to steer in rocks or mud.

Really? Because crossover steering should have a better turning radius than push/pull stock steering. Marlin's truck is a long bed and right now because of his HySteer, he can out turn my shortbed with stock steering.

i have my steering stops turned all the way out for my ringed longfields.
so i didnt notice any turning radius difference.

Me too, I'd rather have to make a 2 point turn on the trail than buy new birfs

well fellas, I realized something.  I chopped off the end of the pitman arm and welded on a tapered female end, and it was about a 1/4" shorter i think.  I din't think about it at the time, bu that would make for less movement, and is probabaly the main problem.  I think when i measured and attached the drag link too, i had the pitman arm centered, but the wheels were turned a little to the passenger side.So that would explain why it tuerns just a tad nit more to the passenger side than the driver, so i will fix that.  I guess i kind of look at it like not too big of a deal because it is like having nicely set steering stops....wont have to worry about breaking birfs (as much) like others said.

I do have to say though, at the moment it is working awesome.  I had my 35 MT's aired down a little and i can turn fully each direction at a stand still on rough cement  (the stuff made of gravel)  with ease.  That box is 10 times better than the old stock one.  And the steering is super quick and responsive and the bump steer cure is excellent.

Thanks Marlin and Crew

turn your tires all the way against the stop right or left doesnt matter, then take pitman loose,  turn wheel all the way that way, reinstall pittman
