Topic: Modifying a Kenwood YK-88SN-1 Filter to fit in my Kenwood TS-440S

  Ok since this is a Radio Sub-board, and I have been told I should start a thread for the mods/repairs/projects I do with radios.

Ok so here goes.
   
   To start off they don't make or sell the SSB filter I need for my radio. Hey it's over 25 years old!

So this is the filter I need:

Notice the extra board?   well thats a problem..

  So here we go the radio and the filter :

 Well first I have to open up the radio...

The spot for the filter is just on the right side on top of the main board( Ham radios of many sub-boards).

I then have to undo the screws holding the board down and lift it out of the radio case.

And the two mounting spots for the filters.

And the problem with the new filter...Hey the old filter solders in place and the new one has a daugther board that fit in place so that does not work.

   Ok so how do you think I can fix that... Well this is what seperates the Hams from the general CB crowds...


 I have to remove the Filter from it's daughter board..




   And then I solder it on to the Main board:  


  There is some things that have to be right before you can just solder something into a radio, like matching the center Fequencies of the crystial in the filter etc. But I will not bore you this that stuff.. It can get you   in no time.

  A J-060VT Soldering iron...0 to 60watts fully adjustable.  Interchangeable tips and basic resin core solder..
I also had a solder wick( very small copper braid ) and a Solder sucker/vacuam tool.
