Ok, so got 3 out of 4 steering box bolts tightened, there is one missing, but it's easy to get to. The bottom front bolt was not so easy to get to and took about 1/2 hour to tighten with a 1/2" wrench, 12" extension, swivel head & 5/8" shallow 6pt socket.

Took it for a test drive and the thing is cherry. It drops in to gear a little hard and idles a little high, but other than that it feels mechanically sound.

The oil pan, transmission, transfer case and rear pinion all leak, but that's easy enough.

Time to go to DMV and then get serious.

MiniSimp

Alright! Did the DMV thing today so it's officially my wifes rig! :woohoo:

Now I need to start saving for parts. :blah:

Going with Procomp 6" Suspension Lift springs all around, Super Swamper 36x12.50 TSL's on black wagon wheels.

Need to find a free or cheap step side bed for 73-79 GMC and bumpers. After I get that I will ditch the flatbed.  :yesnod:

If anybody knows anybody with one of these parked in their yard let me know.

bigarms23

you would get better flex going with a suspension kit from offroad design

Relocate? why, what's wrong with the stock battery location?  :dunno: :headscratch:

MiniSimp

I like the clean "hot rod" look with nothing under the hood that doesn't have to be.

There's a nice little spot on the inside of the PS frame rail just behind the cab that has pleanty of room for it. Just need to build a tray.

fordh8r

Yeah, it should fit there.

Mount a remote positive stud someplace in the engine compartment.  That way if you have to jump start it, it would be easier than crawling underneath.  All the newer cars where the battery is a afterthought has this.
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!

4THEWKN~9/17/2006  If it wasn't for you, I'd be driving something other than a Toyota!

Yeah, I'll have to do something, but those remote studs are expensive!

fordh8r

I'm sure you can come up with something.
