8"or10" wide rims
« on: Jun 08, 2009, 09:32:53 PM »
I'm picking up my 35x12.5r15 BFG Mud terrain KM2's tommorow as well as some black steelies. I am wondering if I should do 8" or 10" rims. They are going on a 91 runner with a 4" sas and 5" coil to leaf swap and 1.5" spacers on the front. I'm thinking 10's with 4" backspacing. Is that proper backspacing?
P.S.....I know there is a tire and wheel section, but I'm looking for quick input
Thanks

8" helps keep the bead on at lower pressures

I don't air down all that often although I do have an OBA compressor. I was thinking 10's for a bit more road stability because this will be my daily driver and I don't really want to run 8's with real shallow BSpacing for bearing reasons.

IME I lost more beads w/8's than I have with 10's.

The 10" wheel and a 2-2.5" back spacing will help to widen your track width, and to put your center of gravity closer to stock than the narrower 8's or w/a 4" backspacing.  With the amount of lift you have you shouldn't have a rubbing issue, everyone I wheel with runs that little of BS w/that width of rim.

With a 12.5 Tire you should be running 8". The tire hooks up better. And they look better IMO. I've even spoken to other tire pro's and they say that you should measure the tread width, whick will most likely be about 10" and subtract an inch from each side, and that the size rim to use.

I did 10's with standard (4" BS) and like them fine. The stance looks how I wanted and a bit more width without having to do a shallow BS worked for me.
Thanks for the input  :usa:
