« on: Jun 07, 2009, 10:06:46 PM »
ok so this is what im working with stock rears in the front and back. the only thing i dont like is how flat my fronts are. what can i mix them with and make them arch like a spring should and not take away flex? any ideas?  :usa:

get another pack of rear and pull a couple of leafs out to add to yours.  another good option is get a set of lift rear springs(around a 3in. ift) and put the whole pack in the front.  i''m running nwor 3in. lift rears in the front and they work great.  any leaf you find that has an arch to it.  you can even get something long and cut it down if you need to so it fits.

i do have extra spings in the garage out of a stock rear pack. but they are a overload and some random short one. two overloads would just make it stiff right?

yea, i wouldn't run the overloads.  you want to try to run a longer spring out of the pack so that it covers a larger area of the existing leaf that you set it under.  to short of a leaf and stiff can cause the leafs to bend and the end points of the short leaf that you add in(i hope that makes sense).  if you need some leafs i have a full set of rears that i can pull apart and send you some of the leafs.  let me know.

What happened to the stock front packs?  Just pull several out of there, cut to length, add'em in.  It's common for RUF's to include 2-4 leafs from the original front spring pack for the very reason you stated.

I think he could be saying not to run the rears up front AS IS, with the overload and everything....that is, unless you want your rig to double as a snowmobile with those rock anchors hangin out there.

could be wrong though...

Here is a picture of when I was making my front pack

There are more pictures on http://www.gentryoffroad.com/php/trucks/904runner/phaseI/
I have a S10 leaf in the pack because they are 51" rears with 48" rears the S10 leaf should not be necessary.

no no,  thats not what i was talking about, :haha:  i actually didnt even notice the wood block till you said that.

the un touched stock rear leaf pack in the front is what i was talking about. I dont think ive ever seen anyone ACTUALLY take the entire unmodified rear pack and move them to the front

No one is doubting the flex, overloads arent going to hinder that...
But have you tested them out on something other than a forklift???

On the trail i can imagine your truck acting as a forklift as well, scooping up all the rocks in your path. :yikes: This is why rears up front are generally a mix of several spring packs, to create the stability and height an overload provides without the stiffness/ bulkiness/ clearance issues, etc.

I'm running 5 leafs mixed from 2 packs, top 3 from one, bottom 2 from another.
Made them to sit as flat as possible, trying to get them flatter.
Take the extra leafs that you have and see which one has the most arc, add that one in.
Don't make too thick a pack or your leaves will hit your drag link at full PS droop.
