I have an 84 4Runner with a solid front axle.
I had to pound the piss out of the studs on one hub/disc assenmbly to get them out. I even had to drill one out thanks to the northeast road salt fetish.

now, I can't seem to find wheel studs, and it's driving me and my parts guy nuts. the catalog he's got says it's the same wheel studs from 84-95, but those studs do not fit, at all. they fall right through to the head. the studs I had in the truck were "almost" identical to a stud from an 83 TLC< but the knurl and hsank are both 0.01" too big to be driven into the hub. I can ream out the hub to 0.545" diameter to get these studs to work, but I'd like to know wtf is going on before I start removing metal.

backgroudn on the vehicle: I bought from a Toyota mechanic who had a sortof-notreally ide of what he was doing, and he bought it from a guy who really knew his stuff when it came to toyotas. I have not ruled out the possibility that some things on this truck may be non-stock.

what holds the rotor on?  Is it 2 bolts or 6.  That will tell the story right there as the earlier ones had different studs if memory serves.

next time take them out with a brass punch and a 2 pound sledge hammer work great onse you get it rigth 1or 2 blow and it's out, I removed all 12 of them last winter.

And I know what you're talking about we have those same problem here with the salty road.

man you guy really need to make a friend with a press, or pay a shop to press those out and in.  I don't know how I would have done mine without it!

I keep some cheap aftermarket tall acorn nuts around just for removal.  I just screw it on 5-10 threads and give it a whack.  Thats it and its a lot quicker than a press too. :gap:
