what type of engine assembly lube should i use? the local stores have squat.....

i'm probably going to need to order it....

have heard white grease and motor oil... is that lithium grease, what motor oil, and how much would i mix it?
autozone has comp cams assembly lube, but doesn't have it in the store, and doesn't show a picture of it online..

sta-lube has one that is moly and graphite for engine assembly, is that what i want?

i saw an ad for royal purple having a synthetic engine assembly lube

Grab a tube of moly grease and an extra oil filter.  Fire the engine and let the cam break in for about 20 minutes then change the oil and run it.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

is that the moly with the graphite, or doesnt matter? cant find regular moly grease, unless it is the white grease

i am not opposed to spending the $ to do it the right way

im not a fan of useing grease  its not real oil solvable  in till it gets hot then it will wash out.  thats why i use  petrolum jelly on my O-rings when doing hydrolic work  trannyis, wet clutches, cly  and what not.

you got a napa close by?

yeah, they had one called white grease, and the sta lube with the moly and graphite.... that's all i have been able to find.... im on the phone with local places right now

found some melling stuff in a squeeze bottle, and i think some redline stuff, guy said it was in a jar, but called it cv2 -- however i looked it up online, and redline had assembly lube in a jar, but cv2 is a wheel bearing grease in a cartridge

x2 I've used this on everything I've built, good stuff

kneedownnate

I'm partial to redline oils, and their little tub of assembly lube is like $1.50.  I fawked up on my new cam break in and the stuff kept the cam from getting messed up.  Napa can get it, any mom and pop place can get it, race shops will have it, and if you have any oil/gas distributor that carry product they'll probably have it too.

DAWGTOY

lubriplate 105  from napa or gm assembly oil from your local gm parts counter.
i use both on my engine rebuilds. both are a great product. the gm product
has a high zinc content.

Lubriplate 105 is what I prefer but any good quality heavy lube will work.... heavy grease bad, plugs filters and small orifices. As long as what ever you use coats well and sticks to your parts during assembly, use lots, don't be shy with it. If you have done a good build you should have good oil pressure on first start up/ prelube and your assembly lube will be washed off. Change the oil and filter after a few hours and giver. I make my living working on diesel engines up to 2500HP and never had a problem with start up wear or damage.
