well, ive been asked by half a dozen people in the last few months to post pics and specs of my first crawler

it was an 1985 toyota xtra cab 1 ton 2wd
i put in a LC engineering stroker (2.6 litre)
r151f
triple 23 spline cases with a 4.0 marlin gear in the last, and twin sticks, it had a crawl ratio of 442.1 with 538s in the axles

the front axle was a  big hub 44, alloy usa axles, ctms, arb, 5.38s, flat top high steer, 6 lug hubs and brakes
rear axle was a corporate 12 bolt / dana 60 hybrid, dana 60 axles and hubs, with redrilled alloy usa chromo axles

in the pics its rolling 38,5 boggers on allied beadlocks

full exo cage, i made it when i was 17, so i know  it looks iffy, i admit i was a backyard builder-but it survived, and i did, at least 20 rollovers, maybe half where flops, but a few pretty serious ones including going over backward in the hammers

this truck did wrecking ball, sledge, and other hammer trails, and the rubicon well over 100 times in the 5 years i owned it. would do fordyce creek trails in 2wd all day

i sold it to a questionable soul in nor cal and the last time i heard it had been siezed in a drug raid and placer county owned it, not sure where it went from there.

anyway-here are a few pics

NorCalToy

i see what you meant by state of CA owns it... :hahaha:

well nice rig anyways. any pics of spot where you flipped backwards at the hammers?

well, here is from there site.

Three words that say what Alloy USA is all about. DRIVETRAIN performance is our business and we take pride in ENGINEERING solutions and then testing them until they are PERFECTED for you.

For over 20 years we have ate, slept and breathed the mechanics of getting power to the ground and moving vehicles forward. reliably. No corporate managers, bean counters or stuffed shirts. Just folks that have developed, tested, raced and trail ridden products that ultimately deserve to go under your vehicle.

im not 100% sure they where alloy usa, but i think they where. they where alloy somethin or other, purchased at whatever vendor foothill off road in auburn uses

Doof

how many times did you hit squeeze in 2wd?

i want to see video of this or any other trial you did in 2wd, or at least pics of you rocking foryce

how did it handle in the box? which line would you usually take?

crawlerdan

i will admit that all bypasses where taken when in 2wd, but we would bet money to see how far i could get in 2wd, made it through a few times completely.

in the box i would go all the way left untill about the middle, and tehn roll on the drivers side while mashing the gas, typical :hahaha:

I would LOVE to see this. You should really find this truck again and prove to us that it can do that.

I Highly doubt you could on 38.5 boggers. HIGHLY doubt it.

Thanks for the laugh though, I needed it.
RIP Kyota.... you are the man

GET IT!!!

crawlerdan

oh no guys, lilbuddy caught me-my plan to make you all give a crap about my life has been foiled.

anyway-on that note, alot of these trails have alot of terrain that can be done in 2wd, hell i did most of mcr5 in 2wd in my 87.(coming down cadillac) it becomes alot easier when you are there literally every week, and take your time to pick the right lines.

i too would like to know what happened to it, the last i saw it in the possesion of the kid i initially sold it to, he had destroyed the front axle, and the drivers side of the frame, kinda disappointing, but i guess it was none of my concern.

Doof

so uhh..... where are these pics?

Cheesemaker

I've seen many guys go farther than they thought they could do in 2wd.  It's all in the driver and knowing his rig.  Most everybody is willing to toss it in 4wd as soon as they hit the gravel.

Any guy who takes his woman wheeling enjoys her. A woman who is owned is left at home to cook, clean, and keep beer cold. So if this offends you you should stop looking and go have some tacos.    :rofl2: And a beer. If your old enough.   :beerchug:
