1983 toyota trailblazer SR5 resto
« on: May 01, 2009, 02:02:25 PM »
I started this post on the Pirate board, and thought you guys would enjoy it. I tried posting on this board on my last build, but couldn't figure out the posting of pics. I talked to Marlin at the round up, and thought I would try it again

I did some wheeling and dealing with a guy from Galt Calif for this Trailblazer. It has 148k miles ,but doesn't run. The body is almost perfect. It is completely stock, and unmolested. It looks like the only thing changed was the stereo. The dash is cut and a little messed up. It even has cruise control. From what I have read The Trailblazer was a first attemp of a small SUV/4runner. Griffin took new Toyota's and did an SUV conversion on them by cutting the back of the cab out and adding rear seats. . The top is firberglass molded to the cab and bed. 400 were built. Trekker is another that was built by Winnabego. There were 1200 of those built. For now I plan on doing a restoration like I did my 1981 SR5.

After posting this I learned that there might of been allot more of these built. I got my numbers from the yotatech forum.

HHHMM still cant figure out how to post pics.

Well,I worked on the electrical a little and changed the carb, and got it run. It has a rod knock, so it looks like I will be rebuilding or replacing the engine.

I had an old Chinese quad one of my buddies dropped off at my house about a year ago. He said he was giving it to my 9 year old. Well the thing didn't run, and it was a POS.He just wanted it out of his garage. I spent $50.00 on a battery and cleaned out the fuel system and was able to get it running (barely).

I found an 83 Toyota in a guys front yard a few months ago that wasn't running. He said it had a new engine, but wasn't ever finished or started. He wanted $700.00 for it. I called him, and was able to trade him for this Chinese quad. It has no rust and is really straight. The interior is partially missing.

It turned out to be kinda nice for a parts truck, but oh well. The body is really nice, and it has everything I need under the hood.

I noticed your build on pirate, as well as your first gen pickup.... VERY CLEAN!  When you do post pics id like to request some pics of the interior, namely the backseat.  Im kicking around the idea of making my 82 into an extended cab of sorts, and am curious how these things looked where the cab meets the bed. Thanks, cant wait to see the build progress!
