Topic: rear end lengths

I was wondering if anybody could tell me if a 2wd rearend is the same length as a 4wheel drive, the 2wd unit is a 82 and the fourwheel unit is a 83, thanks for any help

if you are talking about width than yes, or close enough. the width on the 2wd is suppodely 56" whereas a 4wd is 55" ..... but most of the 2wd rear ends were a 7.5" ring gear diameter, not a 8" like the 4wds, also the housings were setup as a spring under axle, not spring over like the 4wds, and the 2wds were 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern axleshafts not 6 on 5.5" like the 4wds

there were some 2wd rear ends that were 8" ring gear
