Transmission lengths

Are all the early trannys the same length and the Gs, Ws, and Rs one length?

Im going to put a G54 in place of my L52 and use the top shift from my L52.
What is the difference in length?

What do I need to do since the G54 had the stuff for a foward shift case? Just put a block off plate on the second shifter hole?

It would be cool if on the page that has all the trannys in marlins site if it had lengths.

G54 is like 6 inches longer,  Marlin can put those G54 gears into your L52 case,  thats what he runs,  they call it a L52HD

Yeah after some more searching I found some good infor on lengths.

But can I use my top shift case with this transmission since it came with a forward shift case?

I pulled the nose cover off when I picked it up yesterday and i can move the input shaft about 1/4" at the very tip of it. How much wiggle is too much?
I dont mind rebuilding but dont want to if I dont have too. I was going to eventually put this behind a 7mge so I dont want to wimp out now.

Yes.  You can use your t-case with this tranny.

1/4 sounds like too much.  <-- Hoping someone can give a better answer.

Yeah seems like a lot so I guess I'll rebuild it when I get a chance.

I measured both the L-52 with the t-case to the back flange is 34 1/2" The G54 Transmission is 38 1/2" long measured the same way.

I did this swap a couple months back.

I used a bud built low profile crossmember and moved it back to the back mount bolts and used 2 u bolts over the frame to hold up the crossmember.


You gotta lengthen your front driveshaft and shorten the rear driveshaft.

I used a IFS front drive shaft since they are longer I modifyed it to move beyond 25 deg of flex.
